Measurement and estimation of actual evapotranspiration in the field under Mediterranean climate: a review
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Mediterranean regions are submitted to a large variety of climates. In general, the environments are arid and semi-arid with summers characterised by high temperatures and small precipitation. Due to the scarcity of water resources, the correct evaluation of water losses by the crops as evapotranspiration (ET) is very important in these regions. In this paper, we initially present the most known ET measurement methods classified according to the used approach: hydrological, micrometeorological and plant physiological. In the following, we describe the methods to estimate ET, distinguishing the methods based on analytical approaches from the methods based on empirical approaches. Ten methods are reviewed: soil water balance, weighing lysimeter, energy balance/Bowen ratio, aerodynamic method, eddy covariance, sap flow method, chambers system, Penman–Monteith model, crop coefficient approach and soil water balance modelling approach. In the presentation of each method, we have recalled the basic principles, underlined the time and space scale of its application and analysed its accuracy and suitability for use in arid and semi-arid environments. A specific section is dedicated to advection. Finally, the specific problems of each method for correct use in the Mediterranean region are underlined. In conclusion, we focus attention on the most interesting new guidelines for research on the measurement and estimation of actual crop evapotranspiration. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Evaluation of Different Methods of Calculating the Potential Evapotranspiration at the Annual Timescale in the Northeast of Iran
One of the most fundamental processes, which influence climate and weather, both global and local scales that a fact which gives it the status of agriculture, is Evapotranspiration (ET). In irrigation and water resources management, ecosystem modelers, environmental assessment and solar energy system, accurate assessment of evapotranspiration is essential. Potential evapotranspiration (ET) h...
متن کاملApplication of SIMETAW simulation model for prediction of climate parameters in different regions of Iran
So far, several models have been proposed for estimating different climate parameters, but due to the lack of valid and long-term data in some meteorological stations, some models have been difficult to use. The SIMETAV V.1.0 model has been developed in cooperation with the University of California Davis and the Water Resources Authority of California in 2005. The SIMETAW model is a new and inn...
متن کاملEstimation of Actual Evapotranspiration, Water productivity, and Irrigation Efficiency of Wheat Fields in Surface and Sprinkler Irrigation Systems Using Remote Sensing
In arid and semi-arid regions, water resource management and optimization of applying irrigation water are particularly important. For optimization of applying irrigation water, the estimated values of actual evapotranspiration are necessary for avoiding excessive or inadequate applying water. The estimation of actual crop evapotranspiration is not possible in large areas using the traditional ...
متن کاملAn estimation of Thornthwaite monthly water-balance in Mighan sub-basin
Water resources in arid and semi-arid regions are heavily influenced by climate change, water shortage, water regulations, and increased water demands. Monthly discharge is one of the most important factors in hydrological studies. Some of the basins are not equipped with adequate hydrometric equipment. In such a case, average monthly discharge could be estimated by regional monthly water balan...
متن کاملEvaluation of HYDRUS2D for estimating maize evapotranspiration and virtual water content
Fresh water scarcity has become a global problem which needs a serious attempt to find proper solutions for decreasing the pressure on the limited water resources. The exact estimation of crop virtual water would help with choosing crops with high crop and water productivity which lead to both food and water security. Thus, in this research, maize virtual water was estimated using HYDRUS2D base...
